2017 - Helping the Lichfield Lions

Earlier in the year Lichfield and District Lions Club asked 7th Lichfield Scout Group for our help in raising money to commenorate their 100th anniversary.

We were first approached back in April / May to see if we could provide manpower to help supervise their main fundraising initiative which was a 100 metre coin collection at the Bower.  The Lions had approached many local businesses and asked them to sponser a metre of £1 coins in exchange for advertising space.  Due to the length of the line involved, we were asked to provide Group members who could help supervise thereby adding some much needed security.  Into the bargain was thrown several younger members of the Group who all attended looking very smart in their uniform.  The day itself was wet and windy however this did not deter our volunteers from turning up and representing the Group.

In July we were again asked by the Lions to help them continue with the 100metre coin collection at the Cars in the Park weekend.  This was a fast ball request.  With literally days to spare we asked our Group for help and a whole pack of volunteers came forward.  We were able to cover every hour slot that was required.  The weather was excellent, bright and sunny and a good time was had by all.

As a result of these two fundraising events Carl, Richard and Tracy this week attended a  Lichfeld and District Lions charity dinner night and was presented with a cheque for 7th Lichfield Scout Group to the tune of £1000.  This is a fantastic amount.

It was made possible by a group of parents giving up an hour of their time. Some of them attended with their children some didn't. Either way these are parents who wanted to do their part for the Group and what a phenomenal result.

Thank you so much to all of you who made this possible and to the children of the Group who also got stuck in.

The 7th Lichfield Scout Group is pleased to announce the purchase of a portable defibrillator at their Scout Hut in Ash Grove, made possible through a successful fundraising effort that raised over £1500.

GeoAccess, a local Asset Management company, played a crucial role by generously donating a matching Defibrillator training unit. Mark Coleman, Managing Director of GeoAccess and a dedicated Cub Leader, shared, "We are pleased to donate this training unit to the 7th Lichfield, supporting them in equipping their leaders and young people with vital life-saving skills."

The 7th Lichfield Scout Group extends heartfelt gratitude to all contributors who have supported this initiative.

I would like your support to purchase a defibrillator for our scout hut.

I recently witnessed a stranger collapse due to a sudden heart attack while on holiday in Spain. Thanks to my training as a volunteer Scout Leader, I was able to help initiate CPR, sustaining the man's life until the arrival of a police car equipped with a defibrillator. This experience made me think about what would happen if a similar medical emergency occurred during one of our scout meetings or camps.

Justin from our friends at Whittington Cricket Club ran a taster session for Somers Cubs last week. It was a shame that the weather did not permit a trip to the ground, but I am sure that we will pay them a visit before long.

The cricket club are raising funds at the moment for an ambitious plan to go 'off-grid' to support a sustainable future. You can read more about their appeal here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/taking-whittington-cricket-club-to-the-next-level
