7th Lichfield at the 2022 Lichfield Bower and Court of Arraye
The ancient tradition of the Bower and Court of Arraye returned to Lichfield with the dual role of celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It was great see the parade return after two years of cancellations. 7th Lichfield played a full part in the day. Our cubs provided the "men-at-arms" for the Court of Arraye, we had our own float in the parade, many of our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts also boosted the numbers on other floats, and we provided volunteer adults to shake the buckets for donations.
The event started a long time before the big day. A team of volunteers worked hard to source and decorate our float to get it ready. Many of our Beaver, Cubs and Scouts also contributed with artwork and mask making.
On the day those who were to be on the parade from the start congregated on Cherry Orchard ready for the judging of the floats. We were delighted to be award first prize for the second time in a row. Whilst this was going on, a select group of Cubs were in the Guild Hall getting dressed in the traditional soldier and yeoman's uniforms in preparation for the Court of Arraye. Our Cubs have played the part of the Men-at-Arms at this ancient ceremony for many years now.
The parade set off and made its way to the Guild Hall for the crowning of the Bower Queen. The Men-at-Arms get a ring side seat for this as they act as the guard of honour for the civic party.
With the formalities complete, the Men-at-Arms joined our float and we all had a great time entertaining the good people of Lichfield as the parade wended its way around the town.
We really hope that more Lichfield community groups will join us next year to make the Lichfield Bower a great event for our City.
