Join our #RaceRoundTheWorld

COVID-19 is the biggest crisis we’ve faced in a generation. Now, over 500 Scout groups – many of them based in communities that were already made vulnerable before the virus hit – are struggling to make ends meet. If they close their doors, thousands of young people will miss out on all the life-changing skills and experiences being a Scout can bring, precisely when they need us most.

Scouts are setting off on an epic #RaceRoundTheWorld to help the 500+ Scout Groups hardest hit by the crisis.

Scouting in the UK is being badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our traditional fundraising opportunities are no longer possible and many groups rely on subscriptions from weekly meetings that can not take place. Scouting offers a unique opportunity for young people to socialise together and to learn important life skills for the future. This is needed now more than ever.

The 7th Lichfield Scout Group is very lucky, we are one of the largest Scout Groups in the country and we have good reserves in place so that we are able to weather this storm, however, many Scout Groups across the UK are not so fortunate. They are facing closure due to a lack of funds. We are joining with the rest of Scouting in the UK to help raise funds to keep the 500+ groups that are in trouble afloat so that they will still be there to provide Scouting in the future.

The Scout Association has announced that they are having to sell off a number of assets including Baden Power House and the Downe Adventure Centre. These disposals are being made to raise much needed funds to keep the movement going. This is a tangible sign of just how serious the current situation has become.

Whether you have benefited from Scouting in your youth, currently have a family member in the movement or you just want to see this important voluntary youth organisation survive into the future, please consider supporting us by making a donation on the 7th Lichfield Scouts donation page.

How does it work? Our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and supporters will be walking a mile, or more to contribute to the effort to #RaceRoundTheWorld and they will be asking everyone they know to help them by sponsoring their efforts.

Thank you

The 7th Lichfield Scout Group is pleased to announce the purchase of a portable defibrillator at their Scout Hut in Ash Grove, made possible through a successful fundraising effort that raised over £1500.

GeoAccess, a local Asset Management company, played a crucial role by generously donating a matching Defibrillator training unit. Mark Coleman, Managing Director of GeoAccess and a dedicated Cub Leader, shared, "We are pleased to donate this training unit to the 7th Lichfield, supporting them in equipping their leaders and young people with vital life-saving skills."

The 7th Lichfield Scout Group extends heartfelt gratitude to all contributors who have supported this initiative.

I would like your support to purchase a defibrillator for our scout hut.

I recently witnessed a stranger collapse due to a sudden heart attack while on holiday in Spain. Thanks to my training as a volunteer Scout Leader, I was able to help initiate CPR, sustaining the man's life until the arrival of a police car equipped with a defibrillator. This experience made me think about what would happen if a similar medical emergency occurred during one of our scout meetings or camps.

Please visit our Just Giving page if you would like to donate.

Justin from our friends at Whittington Cricket Club ran a taster session for Somers Cubs last week. It was a shame that the weather did not permit a trip to the ground, but I am sure that we will pay them a visit before long.

The cricket club are raising funds at the moment for an ambitious plan to go 'off-grid' to support a sustainable future. You can read more about their appeal here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/taking-whittington-cricket-club-to-the-next-level
